End-of-life tires: Shredding, separating metals and recycling

To process end-of-life tires for cars, trucks, aircraft, and heavy-duty vehicles is one of the most problematic waste types and difficult to recycle. With TANA high-torque shredder it is possible to shred tires to a very homogeneous 80 mm (3") particle size in just one pass and separate most of the metals during the shredding process.


Once separated, tire shred and metals can be sold and reused in many ways

It is possible to generate income out of your waste tires:

  • Asphalt companies buy large quantities of shredded rubber crumbs to mix with their hot melt asphalt to make pavements cheaper.

  • Shredded tires are perfect for increasing the burning value of refuse-derived fuel (RDF) in incineration plants, as they can really maximize their process by utilizing a rubber mixture.

  • Other road construction companies purchase large quantities of medium-sized shredder tires to use in road beds for minimizing vibration and for highway sound barriers.

  • Landfill sites can use shredded tires for leachate lines and to help them build new cells.

  • Rubber tires can be used in barriers for collision reduction, erosion control, and rainwater runoff, and to protect piers and marshland from wave action.

Impossible for other shredders with the same fuel efficiency and capacity: TANA Shark has the ability to shred tyres to a very homogeneous 80mm particle size in just one pass and separate most of the metals during the shredding process. When needed the particle size can be adjusted by changing the counter-knife setting on the side door and choosing a suitable rotor screen. The bigger the particle size the higher the capacity.

Instead of tearing the tyres, the TANA Shark cuts them almost like very efficient scissors. By using the operating program for tyres, the machine automatically adjusts itself to the optimal level hence protecting the machine and optimizing operating costs.

Recovery of other valuable materials

The overband magnet separates most of the metal wires directly from the shredded material flow on conveyor. After cleaning the metal wires can be sold.
